BRUSSEL SPROUTS

2008 is my first year to try growing brussel sprouts, and I've heard they can be very tempermental. I will try to grow them as a fall crop because I hear that's a little easier. If you've never seen a brussel sprouts plant growing in someone,s garden be sure to come check them out in the late summer, early fall. They look really cool when all the sprouts are forming along the stem.

Brussel sprouts are another vegetable that is best to enjoy very simply. The easiest way to cook them is to boil or steam them for 7-10 min--most people like them still a little crunchy in the middle. Drain them and toss them with some butter, sea salt, and freshly ground pepper. They are so delicous it's almost not worth the effort to add them to some other elaborate recipe. However, they'd go great in the roasted root vegetables recipe that is found on the beets page.
